Celebrate the Holidays In Lakewood Township

December is a time for family and friends to gather and celebrate.  Whether you’re celebrating Santa’s arrival, Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, there are plenty of activities in our area.  A favorite is the Santa Parade that takes place on Saturday, December 9 at 1 p.m. in Town Square. You’ll see the Lakewood High School marching band, choruses from the Lakewood elementary schools, Lakewood High School sports teams and cheerleaders, recreation sports teams and Santa’s elves. The Lakewood Police and Fire departments will assist Santa in distributing gifts, donated by the Lakewood Recreation Department. The first 2,000 children age 10 and under will receive gifts.

The Scoop About Driving on Icy Roads

Hey, we live in New Jersey.  Of course we know how to drive on icy roads, right?

Not so fast.  Just because you’ve got lots of experience driving on icy roads, doesn’t mean you can drive faster than 45 miles per hour.  That’s right.  Experts say the fastest you can drive on icy roads is 45 mph.  But they actually recommend driving 10 miles per hour.  Because you can slide off the road in treacherous black ice going that slow.  More importantly, you aren’t usually the only one on the road, and while YOU may  be experienced driving on icy roads, the people around you may not be.  They could easily spin out or slide into you, unless you are keeping your distance from them—and driving at a slower speed.

At the Pine Belt family of dealerships in Lakewood NJ, we wanted to share a list of safety precautions for driving on icy roads with you.  Here’s what our service technicians recommend:

  • If you don’t have to go out on an icy day, don’t.
  • Read the weather forecast so you know what to expect.
  • Wear a seat belt at all times. Each year, there are many road fatalities that happen because someone had a minor accident on an icy road, but a seat belt wasn’t worn.
  • Don’t stop for accidents or stranded vehicles. Yes, it’s nice to be a Good Samaritan, but pulling over to the side of the road on an icy highway can cause other drivers to brake and lose control.  It’s better to call 911 and report the issue and let them handle it.
  • Icy road accidents tend to be in multiples. Once one car spins out or control, other drivers tend to do the same.  that’s why you should leave plenty of room between you and other drivers and drive at a very slow rate of speed.

Subaru Supporting American Red Cross

In the wake of the wildfires rampaging through the western United States as well as the recent hurricanes, Subaru of America has donated an additional $100,000 to the American Red Cross.  This is in addition to the $100,000 annual donation made by Subaru to the organization.

Subaru is a platinum member of the non-profit’s Ready 365 Giving Program and also had matched its annual support with an additional $100,000.  That brings this year’s total donation to $300,000.

“At Subaru, it is part of our Love Promise to help our neighbors in times of need. We strongly believe it is our responsibility to support our communities,” said Thomas J. Doll, president and COO of Subaru of America, Inc. “When we watched the devastation that has hit some of the areas, we knew we had to do more. While we know the need is great, we hope these funds will help to provide some support to those in the areas that need it most.”

Subaru also enhanced and extended its existing matching gifts program to establish a way for Subaru employees to help support recovery and relief efforts.  Through the new program, employee donations to eligible organizations  will be matched $2/$1 for all relief efforts through November 30 of this year.

The team at Pine Belt Subaru is proud to support the American Red Cross.  So many Americans have suffered great losses during these disasters and this program provides an easy way to help.

How To Make A Winter Emergency Kit

Winter in New Jersey can be tough on drivers.  There’s snow, sleet, rain, wet and icy roads, short days and long nights.  That’s why it’s smart to put together a Winter Emergency Kit for your vehicle.  If your car breaks down or you get stuck in the snow, it’s a good idea to be prepared.  The service experts at Pine Belt Chevrolet, Pine Belt Subaru and Pine Belt Chrysler-Jeep put together this list of items that would be helpful if you find yourself stranded during harsh winter weather.

  • .first aid kit
  • windshield scraper
  • a metallic space blanket or wool blanket
  • cat litter, road salt or and for road traction
  • battery cables
  • a cell phone charger
  • emergency flares and a flashlight with extra batteries
  • snacks, like energy bars, nuts, dried fruit or packages of food you can eat hot or cold
  • water
  • extra gloves, a warm hat and socks

As the top car dealerships in New Jersey, the Pine Belt automotive team recommends that you store these items in a plastic bin, in car seat pockets or other storage inside your vehicle, instead of in the trunk.  After all, if you are in an accident and can’t access the trunk, your emergency kit won’t help you.  Plus sometimes trunks can be frozen shut.

If your vehicle is stranded or stuck, call 911.  Let them know your name, phone number, location, number of people that are in your vehicle, your license plate number and make and model of your vehicle.  Come to an agreement with the emergency operator about what you are going to do.  If you do decide to leave your vehicle, leave a note with your name, phone number, time of day you’re leaving the vehicle, which direction your are going in and what you plan to do.  Put the note on the dash of your car—inside, so it can’t blow away or get ruined by rain or snow.  Make sure the note could be read by someone standing outside your car.

Get Winterized at Pine Belt

Now that winter is almost here, why not bring your vehicle into one of the Pine Belt dealerships.  We’ll put your vehicle through a multi-point inspection and make sure it’s winter-ready. If you need snow tires, let us know. As the top Lakewood car dealers, we are here for you!!

Subaru – It’s About So Much More Than Vehicles

Subaru

It’s hard for Pine Belt Subaru to focus on vehicle sales when there are so many other things going on in the world. Our Subaru dealer NJ’s automaker, Subaru of America, Inc., has announced how they’ve been giving back in the wake of recent natural disasters. Subaru has donated an additional $100,000 to the American Red Cross due to wildfires charging through the Western U.S.

Aiding Those Impacted

Subaru makes it a goal to donate $100,000 each year to support proactive response to disaster relief efforts for the Red Cross. They are also a platinum member of the Ready 365 Giving Program. After the hurricanes hit, they matched their annual donation with another $100,000 and then tripled—yes, you heard that right, tripled their support in 2017 with another $100,000. Pine Belt Subaru is impressed!

Our Employees Step Up, Too

It’s not just our automaker that donates. The Subaru of America Foundation has created a way for employees like Pine Belt Subaru’s to give back. Employee donations to eligible organizations providing disaster relief will be matched by the matching gifts program. Through November 30th there will be a $2/$1 matching for all relief efforts.

President and COO of Subaru of America Thomas J. Doll said, “At Subaru, it is part of our Love Promise to help our neighbors in times of need. We strongly believe it is our responsibility to support our communities. When we watched the devastation that has hit some of the areas, we knew we had to do more. While we know the need is great, we hope these funds will help to provide some support to those in the areas that need it most.”

Subaru Enters The EV World

Subaru EV

Pine Belt Subaru is pleased to announce that a new all-electric and plug-in hybrid models will be coming to our Subaru dealer NJ. Our automaker has always been very independent. But to bring the EV dream to life, we’ll gladly take the assistance from Mazda, Denso and Toyota. Here’s what we know so far.

Coming Soon

Toyota and Mazda announced at the end of September that they will be joining Denso in a joint venture. The group will come together to design, test and built various components for a shared EV platform. Well, Subaru felt left out so they will also join in the partnership to acquire basic technology needed to develop our very own EV, coming to Pine Belt Subaru in 2021-2022.

What Will It Be

Even though they are in a joint venture with Toyota, Mazda and Denso, that doesn’t mean Subaru is will to change the Subie look. Pine Belt Subaru top selling models are the Outback, Crosstrek and Forester. We’re thinking one of these will be used as the platform for a new EV. An even better idea is to use the brand new 2019 Ascent, a 3-Row SUV. The  head of Subaru of America Communications, Michael McHale, says “In general, we are pursuing our own program, and will have a vehicle (EV) on the market in the 2020 timeframe.”

Go Electric With Pine Belt Subaru

Pine Belt Subaru isn’t surprised to hear Subaru is in the works of an electric vehicle. Our Lakewood car dealers is looking forward to hearing which model is chosen for the new EV. If you’re interested in getting one of these bad boys, stay connected with us as more information is released. As always, head in to see us if you’re in the market for a new or preowned vehicle!

Strand Theatre is a Gem in Lakewood

At Pine Belt Subaru, Pine Belt Chevrolet and Pine Belt Chrysler Jeep, we love being a part of the Lakewood community.  In fact, we’ve been doing business here since 1937!  There are so many great things to do and experience in our area, and one of our favorites is the Strand Theatre.  If you haven’t been, it’s about time you did!

One of the top Jersey Shore entertainment venues, The Strand offers a wide variety of live entertainment.  There are activities for senior citizens, theater camps for teens and children and performances by legendary artists. It’s been a part of the community since 1922, a little bit longer than the Pine Belt dealerships.

In November, you can catch, “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish and I’m Home For The Holidays,” a production filled with wild and hilarious stories and characterizations about family and friends.  Comedian Steve Solomon invites us to holiday dinner at Grandma’s, where you’re allowed to sit at the children’s table if you’re under 55!

In early December, Marshall Tucker is performing with the Magnificent Mancini Brothers. You’ll hear hits like “Fire on the Mountain,” “Heard It In A Love Song” and “Can’t You See.”

And the holidays wouldn’t be complete without a performance of a Christmas Carol And Ebenezer Scrooge. This musical plays December 8,9 and 10.  And On December 23, you can catch a performance of The Nutcracker with the Atlantic City Ballet and Garden State Philharmonic.

Subaru BRZ Highlights from Pine Belt Subaru

Subaru has always been known for backroads and outdoor adventure. When Subaru introduced a Subaru without AWD in 2012, heads turned as this new track-honed model was built with only the blacktop in mind. At Pine Belt Subaru, the best Subaru dealer NJ, we want you to know about this amazing vehicle.

The Subaru BRZ has 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque. This agile two-seater hits 60 mph in approximately 6.2 seconds. While these numbers may seem familiar a new, limited 2018 Subaru BRZ model brings something new to the table in terms of suspension.

The 2018 BRZ tS model actually expands on the upgrade found in the 2017 chassis. For 2018, the car borrows wheels, front and rear SACHS® dampers and coil springs and V braces from its model-mate, the STI.

The tS model also stands out from other BRZs with a carbon fiber spoiler. You can even fine-tune the spoiler’s rear downforce manually. In addition, the tS stands out with Cherry Blossom Red accents at the front grill, a signature rear bumper and a tS badge.  As if the spoiler wasn’t enough already!

Newer BRZ models lightened the clutch weight and continue to refine the stellar shifting. You can slip through the 6-speed manual like a knife through hot butter!  As the engine revs and the G-forces pull you back in your seat, you’ll love the power and torque, as well as the brilliant audible feedback from the racing exhaust.

The Subaru BRZ models are truly a performance enthusiast’s dream. If you want to test drive the best sports car around, you’ll want to come to Pine Belt Subaru.  The new limited edition models are arriving and they’ll go fast!

You can check out our inventory online at www.pinebeltsubaru.com, and also make a service appointment.  Among car dealerships in NJ, no one beats Pine Belt Subaru!

Tips For Safe Winter Driving

In Lakewood NJ and the surrounding areas, we know that winter can wreak havoc on roads and driving conditions.  With winter on its way, the team at Pine Belt Chevrolet, Pine Belt Subaru and Pine Belt Chrysler Jeep thought it was a good idea to remind our friends and customers about how to stay safe while driving in inclement weather.

It’s Raining

  • It’s best to slow down by 5-10 miles per hour.
  • If your vehicle starts to hydroplane, try not to panic. Lift your foot off the gas pedal and let your vehicle slow down until it feels stable again.
  • Try to avoid driving through flooded areas, because it’s hard to determine the depth of water. Water can stall your engine.
  • After you’ve driven through a puddle or deep water, feather your brakes and take your foot off the gas.

It’s Foggy

  • As you approach fog, turn on your fog lights. If you don’t have them, be sure to use your low beams.
  • Pump your brakes before you enter a fog bank to alert drivers behind you to back off.
  • Slow down before you head over the top of a hill. You don’t know if a car has stopped on the other side of the hill because of the fog.

It’s Snowy or Icy

  • Drive 10 miles per hour below the speed limit to reduce the chance of sliding.
  • Slow down as you approach stop lights and stop signs, just in case there is black ice.
  • Be sure not to tailgate and give yourself plenty of room to stop in case the driver in front of you tries to stop suddenly.
  • Don’t use your brake while turning.
  • If you start to skid, turn into it so your car can correct itself and go straight.

Remember The Subaru Baja?

Subaru Truck

The Subaru Baja. A compact pickup that hit the North American market after the International Auto Show back in January 2001. It was the successor to the Brat pickup, something a little smaller, and they were both based Subaru’s wagon platform. Well, since Hurricane Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida, the market for mid-size pickup trucks is booming. Pine Belt Subaru thinks this is the perfect time for our automaker to bring back the Baja.

Thanks To Harvey And Irma

Hundreds of thousands of vehicles were destroyed in Texas and Florida. Midsize pickup interest has skyrocketed 26% in Houston since Harvey came around, according to data from Jumpstart Automotive Media. Shoppers in Florida have also been looking for pickups since Irma hit. Interest is up 21% across the entire state and 26% in Miami alone. If Pine Belt Subaru learned anything from these disasters, it’s that Subaru could cash in on the explosion of mid-size pickup sales. It only took three weeks to reveal a lot about American’s buying trends, as least in these two states.

If Anything Happens, We’re Hoping For Updated First

If our Subaru dealer NJ was being completely honest, the Baja wasn’t the perfect vehicle. It only held four passengers and was missing a middle seat. Only a small part of the midgate folded down making it hard to haul extra cargo. The back bed was a little smaller than Pine Belt Subaru had hoped for, too. Well, there’s always room for improvement and the explosion of the mid-size pickup market could be the perfect time to resurrect the Baja into something new.

A new Global Platform has been developed for every new-generation vehicles, like the Ascent 3-Row crossover. The larger versions Platform, the Ascent SUV, could also be used as a launching point for a new Baja. Make a few changes to the outside design, cut off the back and voila! You’ve got an awesome 4-door, all-wheel-drive pickup. Manufacture it alongside the Ascent 3-Row in Indiana, offer with the new 2.5-liter direct injection four-cylinder boxer or 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine. It could be amazing.

Keep Dreaming With Pine Belt Subaru

Pine Belt Subaru might be dreaming but we think a revamped Baja would be a hot-ticket item in the American pickup market to compete with the Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, we’d love to show you what we have here at our Lakewood car dealers so head in to see us soon!
