Chevy Equinox Gets Redesign for 2018

The last time the Chevrolet Equinox got a redesign was 2010. To improve sales on the compact SUV, Chevrolet did a remarkable revamp on the vehicle.

The new version of the Equinox is 400 pounds lighter and four-inches shorter. It features a smaller turning radius making it easier to park. And, GM has increased space on the interior.

The new Equinox will have three engines to choose from, including a 1.6 liter turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel that will get around 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Pretty impressive, 40-mpg in an SUV. With all the scandal of late with diesels made by another manufacturer, an improved diesel engine will certainly go a long way to help Equinox increase sales.

GM has been adding to diesels in quite a few of their lineups. The Chevy Cruze already has a version of this diesel engine under the hood. The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups both have larger diesel four cylinder engines.

Diesel engines are still the most efficient internal combustion type engines and are important to achieving better fuel efficiency and emissions according to Tim Read, a GM spokesman.

The Equinox diesel arrives next summer, along with a new 252 horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine. Earlier in the year, the Equinox will launch with a 170 horsepower four-cylinder engine.

An upgraded more upscale look has been designed and incorporated onto the Equinox. The doors and sides have lines similar to the Volt, Cruze and Malibu. Some changes to the front and rear make the new Chevrolet Equinox visually appealing.

Pine Belt Chevrolet believes this new edition to the compact SUV segment will get considerable attention and sales. Forty miles per gallon is something everyone will want to consider if they are in the market for a new vehicle—particularly an SUV. We hope that you will make Pine Belt Chevrolet your first stop when the new Chevrolet Equinox is available for a test-drive.
