Sportsmanship has always been an essential element of competitive sports, defined as a respectful approach towards opponents that fosters a competitive yet inviting environment. All too often, the desire to win clouds this judgment and leads to poor athlete to athlete interaction.
Recently, Pine Belt Auto Group was proud to partner with the Shore Conference of High Schools to reward four lucky recipients with a $1,000 check to go towards scholarships for college. The athletes chosen for this accolade displayed attributes like hard work, motivation, respect for their peers and leadership skill and ability that went above and beyond what is expected of them.
The event, held at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River, Shore Sports Network and a partnership with 47 schools made up the Shore Conference which annually honors a male and female from each participating school. Soon, the 93 students will graduate from high school and many of them will go on to continue their athletic aspirations in college. Regardless of future plans, the athletes honored at this event all display an impeccable level of sportsmanship and respect for the game whilst displaying behaviors that encourage a more positive attitude amongst players on their respective teams.
The event was attended by over 300 guests who watched four honorees receive a scholarship of $1,000 each from Pine Belt Auto Group as a result of a random drawing. Executive manager Rob Sickel and spokesperson Alana Hackshaw conducted the drawing for the rewards.
Additionally, Athletic directors of the year Rusty Todd from Ocean Township High School and Joe Arminio of Toms River Regional School District were recognized.
This marks the second year that Pine Belt Auto Group has sponsored the event and is proud to encourage and support student leaders to strive for their post high school aspirations.
