Tips For Safe Winter Driving

In Lakewood NJ and the surrounding areas, we know that winter can wreak havoc on roads and driving conditions.  With winter on its way, the team at Pine Belt Chevrolet, Pine Belt Subaru and Pine Belt Chrysler Jeep thought it was a good idea to remind our friends and customers about how to stay safe while driving in inclement weather.

It’s Raining

  • It’s best to slow down by 5-10 miles per hour.
  • If your vehicle starts to hydroplane, try not to panic. Lift your foot off the gas pedal and let your vehicle slow down until it feels stable again.
  • Try to avoid driving through flooded areas, because it’s hard to determine the depth of water. Water can stall your engine.
  • After you’ve driven through a puddle or deep water, feather your brakes and take your foot off the gas.

It’s Foggy

  • As you approach fog, turn on your fog lights. If you don’t have them, be sure to use your low beams.
  • Pump your brakes before you enter a fog bank to alert drivers behind you to back off.
  • Slow down before you head over the top of a hill. You don’t know if a car has stopped on the other side of the hill because of the fog.

It’s Snowy or Icy

  • Drive 10 miles per hour below the speed limit to reduce the chance of sliding.
  • Slow down as you approach stop lights and stop signs, just in case there is black ice.
  • Be sure not to tailgate and give yourself plenty of room to stop in case the driver in front of you tries to stop suddenly.
  • Don’t use your brake while turning.
  • If you start to skid, turn into it so your car can correct itself and go straight.

Building for America’s Bravest

shutterstock_330827561

It is a special man or woman who can serve on active duty in a combat zone. Sometimes they return home to civilian life permanently disabled. These soldiers have served and served honorably. They will never be the same and they deserve to have all the help we can give them in overcoming their disability. For some of these vets, just the simple act of opening a door at home can cause stress that seems like being on a battlefield. Because of everything these soldiers have faced and will continue to face, General Motors is lending its help to build custom homes for disabled U.S. vets through Building for America’s Bravest.

U.S. Marine Sergeant Ben Tomlinson has received a Smart Home. Tomlinson recently commented to General Motors, “Living in this house has made my outlook on life more positive, and I know the impact on my family has been big, if not bigger than it has been for me. I get told all the time that I’m a hero, but to me, the people from Building for America’s Bravest are the real heroes because they’re helping to improve people’s lives. I’m grateful to (General Motors) for supporting their work.”

Building for America’s Bravest builds Smart Homes customized to the targeted needs of the eligible vets. General Motors is raising funds and awareness for the program. There are 46 Smart Homes in development but there is a waiting list for 200 severely disabled vets needing Smart Homes.

We at Pine Belt Chevrolet are proud of our parent company, General Motors, for the work they do on behalf of disabled U.S. military veterans. Their commitment to making lives more comfortable for those that served and now live debilitated lives is commendable. We invite you to come into Pine Belt Chevrolet and find out how you can support Building for America’s Bravest. While you are at Pine Belt Chevrolet, take a test-drive. Come and see for yourself why General Motors is the right brand and Pine Belt Chevrolet is the right dealership, from sales to service, for you.

Special Edition Chevy SUVs Announced

shutterstock_306947240

There are special edition comic books, special edition magazines—seems like a special edition serves as a consumer magnet.  Why?  “Special Editions give consumers an opportunity to buy something outside of  mainstream trim designation,” says Karl Brauer, senior director, automotive industry insights, Kelley Blue Book. “This lets them spend a little more for a unique model, one that often provides a higher resale value when it’s time to sell or trade the vehicle for their next purchase.” So, it is exciting to hear that Chevrolet has just announced that the Equinox and Traverse SUVs are joining the ranks of Special Editions.

Special editions are popular with automobile purchasers. Chevy trucks that are Special Editions sell three times faster than other Chevy trucks on the market. The demographic that loves Special Editions the most are young and shop upscale.

Both Special Edition models are available for a test-drive at Pine Belt Chevrolet now. Come into Pine Belt Chevrolet today and see for yourself how intoxicating a Chevrolet Special Edition can be. While you are here, let our exceptionally-trained Sales and Service staff show you that from test-drive to regular maintenance to major repair, Pine Belt Chevrolet is here to serve you so that we become your dealership of choice.

The Worst Kept Secret in Motor City

shutterstock_365685428

Is the Motor City keeping a secret? Clues are everywhere, pointing to the notion that the C8 Corvette is no longer just a rumor. The infamous but non-existent and much denied C8 mid-engine Corvette was recently captured on film by Car and Driver Magazine on the GM proving grounds in Miford, Michigan. What is a mid-engine vehicle and why does anyone really care? Well, if you are a racing enthusiast, you know that out-of-this-world performance cars that run in Formula One or Indy races are mid-engine cars. Mid-engine cars have their engines behind the driver in front of the rear wheels. This better distributes the weight of the engine and creates more balanced handling of the vehicle. In essence, a mid-engine vehicle is one that MOVES and moves FAST!

Other clues the C8 is imminent include the trademarking of the names Corvette E-Ray and Corvette Manta Ray by GM this year. (GM loves to name Corvettes after monster-fish like Mako Shark and Stingray.) Also, the previous head of product development for General Motors, the incredible Bob Lutz, confirmed with the Detroit News that the $800 million recently announced by GM to be invested into improvements of the Bowling Green plant where Corvettes are produced, is the same amount he asked for to develop the mid-engine C8 back in 2007. Coincidence you say? Then why is the Bowling Green plant scheduled for hiatus in 2017, heh? That only happens when something big is going down.

Finally, the Detroit News podcast show, Mike and Mike, which covers the auto beat, recently podcasted an interview with reporters who claim they have confirmation the project is a go. The C8 mid-engine Corvette rumor has so much credence that it isn’t a rumor—Corvette die-hards are putting down deposits on a vehicle that is still running around the rumor mill and not down an assembly line!

We at Pine Belt Chevrolet are unable to confirm or deny anything regarding the rumored C8 mid-engine vehicle except, yea-hah, baby!

Top 10 Moments of Chevrolet – Part III

Pine Belt 2 Two Chevrolet B-Segment Cars Coming to Markets

This is the last part of this post that discusses the top defining moment of Chevrolet down the years.

#4: It was Corvette vs. the remaining world

In 2008, Corvette beat the famous monsters like Porsche, Ferrari and BMW to emerge as the winner for the 8th consecutive time at the Manufacturer’s Championship. It became a highly successful team in the history of American Le Mans Series.

#3 When Impala and Daytona created magic together

The date was February 20 1959 when the Impala, now a legend in its own right clinched its first victory in its first race ever. Bob Welborn’s lead foot and steady hand guided it and a new trend of dominance of Daytona started for the Chevy and is continuing even during the present times.

#2: Mr. Corvette arrives at France

Factory racing was banned unofficially in 1960 and this prompted Briggs Cunningham, the legendary sportsman to introduce Corvette to the racing car enthusiasts in the Continent. Corvette, thus made an international debut and got the first-ever victory for Chevrolet at Le Mans. The winning tradition of Chevrolet continues even today. It won the winner’s  trophy at the GTE Pro class in 2011 in Le Mans endurance race

#1 The first race of its kind

As the story goes, the founder of GM, William “Billy” Durant, invited the famous racing driver Louis Chevrolet and his brother Arthur in 1907 to race as an honor for being his own chauffeur. Louis was already a racing sensation internationally easily surpassed Arthur. Billy was completely stunned when he saw how Louis did not even pay heed to his personal safety and gave the coveted job to Arthur right there. Yet, Louis came out victorious in the long run.  With continuous backing from Billy, just a few years later, world saw the birth of the first Chevy.

Top 10 Moments of Chevrolet – Part II

Pine Belt 2 Two Chevrolet B-Segment Cars Coming to Markets

#7 Cruze’s amazing victory in WTCC

It surprised many as Chevy decided to depart from its signature style big displacement V8s in 2010 when it participated at World Touring Car Championship. It was just a season before that the BMWs had been dominating all over the world. Chevrolet achieved two major milestones in the championship be winning the Manufacturer’s Championship, as well as, the Driver’s Championship that year. It proved that a replacement for large displacement does work.

#6 1998 Daytona 500 Is won By Dale Earnhardt

Dale Sr. had been chasing the checkered flag for 19 years before conquering the Daytona 500 finally.  This was his first and sole win at the “Great American Race”. What followed thereafter is regarded as one of the most emotional moments in the history of sports when both the competitors and crews shook his hand while he drove the car slow and enjoyed his long drive to Victory Lane.

#5: It was Corvette vs. the remaining world

In 2008, Corvette beat the famous monsters like Porsche, Ferrari and BMW to emerge as the winner for the 8th consecutive time at the Manufacturer’s Championship. It became a highly successful team in the history of American Le Mans Series.

#4 Jimmie Johnson did it for the 5th time

Jimmie Johnson proved in 2010 that winning has become a habit for him.  He had ridden of-road Silverados to stadium S-10s and tasted success in all. In 2010 he rode a V8 Chevrolet car and clinched the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver’s Championships for the fifth consecutive time. It was an unprecedented feat and he was the first driver to achieve such an accomplishment.

Top 10 Moments of Chevrolet – Part I

Pine Belt 2 Two Chevrolet B-Segment Cars Coming to Markets

Listing down the best 10 moments in the history of Chevrolet is not easy since it is a century-old brand. But after much deliberation, those top ten defining moments have been summarized below in the reverse sequence. They are all nostalgic moments in the racing history of Chevrolet. The first part of the article contains the 10th, 9th and 8th top most memorable moments.

#10 The wild ride of Zora

The year was 1956 when Chevy agreed to let its new V8 Zora-Arkus Duntov participate in a race. It was then a preproduction model not revealed officially. But he participated in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, won it and established a new record. He was responsible for taking Chevy to the spotlight of high performance.

#9 The Chaparral Can Ams

It was in 1964 that Jim Hall got assistance from the Research and Development wing of Chevrolet and surprised the then race-sanctioning bodies before transforming the world of motorsports world forever. He made amazingly innovative designs, incorporated high mounted wings amongst others and dominated at the Cam Am circuit. He managed to emerge as the winner in 1964 at the USRRC Championships.

Without using an iota of gas, Larry proved the immense ability of electric power and laid down the foundation for the now famous Chevy Volt.

Chevrolet Camaro SS Engine Sound: Review

SS Camaro

If you are one of those car enthusiasts who adore the throaty V-8’s sound, you will be delighted with the engine of the Camaro SS from Chevrolet. However, to get the best experience, its convertible version actually demands to be ridden with its top down.

When you ride or drive the SS along a windy and hilly road, the car is undoubtedly at its best. It roars when covering straight ways and purrs while turning to the absolute pleasure of the driver.

If you are looking for one of Camaro’s sportier version, then SS is the car for you. It is powered by a huge 6.2 l and V-8 engine with 8-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmissions along with paddle shifters.

Its powertrain is quite satisfactory for 455 horsepower. You can actually listen to its thundering hooves in this massive beast. At least, the pedestrians and bicyclists can definitely hear it.

It is expected that the current Camaro SS convertible will now be followed by a hotter and newer version in the coming year, ZL1 with 640-hp.

One more reason why this muscle car from Camaro is so quick is because of its lighter body. In fact, as compared to its earlier model, it weighs 223 pounds less. The SS with AT mode is supposed to give a mileage of 28 miles per gallon on a highway and about 17 miles per gallon on city roads. Its convertible top is not made of metal but cloth can be easily lowered or raised when the car is moving at a speed of up to a maximum of 30 miles per hour.

In case you are a car lover, the sound that emits from under its hood will be sheer magic for your ears.

For a test drive of the Chevrolet Camaro, visit Pine Belt today.
