Should Your Vehicle Use Conventional or Synthetic Oil?

Good question! At Pine Belt Chevrolet in Lakewood Township NJ  we hear this question often.  That’s why our service experts decided to share this information with you, so you understand the benefits of each type of motor oil and can make an informed decision.

As a rule, synthetic oil is the way to go.  It is better in its form and function than conventional motor oil.  Conventional oil just can’t stand up to extreme high temperatures like synthetic oil can.  However, synthetic oil changes can cost almost twice the amount of conventional oil changes.  The other big difference is this:  when you don’t have to change your oil as much, you also don’t have to dump as much oil.  In fact, you can dump 15-24 quarts of oil less by using synthetic oil.

With conventional oil changes it’s recommended that you change the oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles.  With the new synthetic oils, you don’t have to change your oil for 7,500, 10,000 or even 20,000 miles!  That’s a big difference.

To confuse things further, there are also synthetic blends, using a mixture of synthetic and conventional oil.  To be safe, it’s best to use what the manufacturer recommends.  You can find out what type of oil is best for your vehicle by looking in your owner’s manual or talking to one of our service experts at Pine Belt Chevrolet.
