Subaru to Wait Until 2020 for WRX Redesign

Subaru Impreza lovers, you’re wait is just beginning.  If you are holding our for a new WRX or STI, you’ll have to wait until 2019 or 2020.  A senior engineer at Subaru said, “The WRX will have a facelift soon, not a full model cycle, because the new model just launched in 2015.  The full model cycle will be about four or five years, and that’s when you’ll see a full model.”

The delay is due to the amount of time it takes to develop a new model, and not the cost.  “You just can’t shorten that production cycle.  There’s many things to consider, such as durability testing and likewise.”

He did say the current WRX will get a refresh soon.  “Subaru would love to have the WRX on the new platform, because the car would be a lot better, but the 2-10 will be a facelift only.”

The 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0 Sport First Drive is also in the news. It’s the first vehicle to be built on Subaru’s new global platform, and the first to be built in North America.  It’s as flexible as it is fun to drive.  After 25 years, the vehicle has been reimaged from door pulls to the engine.  It’s all about the latest in performance.  It’s been built on a whole new chassis, which will also be found on all future models, over time.
