Sometimes driving a minivan comes with a bit of guilt. The kind of guilt that comes from not being able to reduce our carbon footprint when we have a family that needs a minivan. A minivan consumes fuel more like a truck than a small or mid-size sedan. Our friends at Chrysler has done something about our dilemma—the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.
Announced at the Detroit Auto Show last January and just recently debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the combo electric and gas #ChryslerPacificaHybrid can travel 30 miles in electric only mode. Plenty for errands after dropping off the kids at school. The Chrysler will get an estimated equivalent of 80 miles per gallon (MPGe) in the city and when traveling a long haul, the Pacifica Hybrid will travel 530 miles from gas pump to gas pump.
The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid comes with an app that will assist you in monitoring your charge level and in locating charging stations as you travel.
The engine in the Pacifica Hybrid is the first electric-gas minivan. It has a 3.6 liter V-6, a 16-kWh battery, and a twin motor set up to produce 260 horsepower. Positioning the battery pack under the middle row floor means you lose stow and go seating for that area, but the placement makes it easy to recharge in as fast as two hours using a 240-volt electrical outlet. Along with twin motors the Chrysler Pacifica has a double-motor transmission that moves the wheels with both motors instead of one as in traditional engines. Shifting is easy in the Pacifica Hybrid with a rotary knob.
The all-new Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid are total game-changers in the minivan segment. If you are in the market for a minivan and a vehicle that is kinder to the environment, you won’t find anything better than the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.
