Chevrolet Colorado Goes Army

A research and development arm of the U.S. Army will soon be revealing a fuel cell electric vehicle on a Chevrolet Colorado platform.

In 2015, the Army and General Motors formed an alliance allowing the Army access to GM technology for the consumer market for military use. GM, in exchange, would receive information and feedback on these applications in fuel cell technology.

Charlie Freese, executive director of GM’s Global Fuel Cell Activities, is extremely excited about the alliance. “This project is another example of how fuel cell propulsion can play a role in non-traditional applications. We need to continue pursuing these opportunities along with our plans for production of a commercial fuel cell system in the 2020 time frame.”

The Director of the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) Paul Rogers commented, “Hydrogen fuel cells as a power source have the potential to bring to the force incredibly valuable capabilities.”  The capabilities the military are looking for include more quiet vehicles, creating power and electricity away from a vehicle and more off-road capabilities.

Pine Belt Chevrolet is also excited by the collaboration of our parent company, General Motors and the U.S. military. The further development of fuel cell technology has far reaching applications to both the consumer market and the the military. It is important work and there is no better group than General Motors to give it support.

When you’re in the market for a new or pre-owned vehicle, we hope you’ll come see us at Pine Belt Chevrolet.  Our team is committed to providing you with a quality experience, every step of the way.
