Special Edition Chevy SUVs Announced

shutterstock_306947240

There are special edition comic books, special edition magazines—seems like a special edition serves as a consumer magnet.  Why?  “Special Editions give consumers an opportunity to buy something outside of  mainstream trim designation,” says Karl Brauer, senior director, automotive industry insights, Kelley Blue Book. “This lets them spend a little more for a unique model, one that often provides a higher resale value when it’s time to sell or trade the vehicle for their next purchase.” So, it is exciting to hear that Chevrolet has just announced that the Equinox and Traverse SUVs are joining the ranks of Special Editions.

Special editions are popular with automobile purchasers. Chevy trucks that are Special Editions sell three times faster than other Chevy trucks on the market. The demographic that loves Special Editions the most are young and shop upscale.

Both Special Edition models are available for a test-drive at Pine Belt Chevrolet now. Come into Pine Belt Chevrolet today and see for yourself how intoxicating a Chevrolet Special Edition can be. While you are here, let our exceptionally-trained Sales and Service staff show you that from test-drive to regular maintenance to major repair, Pine Belt Chevrolet is here to serve you so that we become your dealership of choice.

The Worst Kept Secret in Motor City

shutterstock_365685428

Is the Motor City keeping a secret? Clues are everywhere, pointing to the notion that the C8 Corvette is no longer just a rumor. The infamous but non-existent and much denied C8 mid-engine Corvette was recently captured on film by Car and Driver Magazine on the GM proving grounds in Miford, Michigan. What is a mid-engine vehicle and why does anyone really care? Well, if you are a racing enthusiast, you know that out-of-this-world performance cars that run in Formula One or Indy races are mid-engine cars. Mid-engine cars have their engines behind the driver in front of the rear wheels. This better distributes the weight of the engine and creates more balanced handling of the vehicle. In essence, a mid-engine vehicle is one that MOVES and moves FAST!

Other clues the C8 is imminent include the trademarking of the names Corvette E-Ray and Corvette Manta Ray by GM this year. (GM loves to name Corvettes after monster-fish like Mako Shark and Stingray.) Also, the previous head of product development for General Motors, the incredible Bob Lutz, confirmed with the Detroit News that the $800 million recently announced by GM to be invested into improvements of the Bowling Green plant where Corvettes are produced, is the same amount he asked for to develop the mid-engine C8 back in 2007. Coincidence you say? Then why is the Bowling Green plant scheduled for hiatus in 2017, heh? That only happens when something big is going down.

Finally, the Detroit News podcast show, Mike and Mike, which covers the auto beat, recently podcasted an interview with reporters who claim they have confirmation the project is a go. The C8 mid-engine Corvette rumor has so much credence that it isn’t a rumor—Corvette die-hards are putting down deposits on a vehicle that is still running around the rumor mill and not down an assembly line!

We at Pine Belt Chevrolet are unable to confirm or deny anything regarding the rumored C8 mid-engine vehicle except, yea-hah, baby!

The New Cherokee Gets Put To The Test With High Expectations

Jeep Cherokee Radiator

Gearing and low end torque

It should be remembered that crawl ratio does not mean everything.  Some of the vital elements for the equation in tractive force are low end torque and size.  Although the V6 and 3.2 liter engine of KL boasts of a more powerful reviving engine than the 4 liter grunty engine of the old KL, it appears that the KL possesses lot of power to climb up steep roads and you can drive it with great confidence while at a low speed.

None of these two vehicles seem to need greater gearing for achieving higher force on to the ground. On the other hand, the cable-driven and linear throttle response of XJ is much more appreciated than that of the KL’s system.

As far as this category is concerned, none of the two vehicles is a clear winner.

Tires

The new Jeep Cherkee is equipped with twenty nine inch tire as compared to the 28 inches tires of the old XJ. However, a 29-inches tire can be fitted into the old XJ without much of a problem. But you may have to juggle and rub white trying to accommodate a bigger tire in the case of the new KL.

When you compare a stock XJ with a stock KL straight from a factory with respect to their tires, none of these 2 vehicles stand at a noticeable advantage. But when you compare the tires of the new Cherokee with that of XJ, the former emerges as a winner.

If you are looking to buy a new vehicle, drop in at Pine Belt today and take a look at the cars available there.

Comparing The New Jeep Cherokee Against The Old One

Jeep Cherokee Comparison

The U-Joints and the axle tubes of the old XJ in its front make it quite a robust vehicle as compared to the independent setup of the new Jeep Cherokee with its vulnerable CV boots made of rubber and exposed halfshafts. Since it is made of rubber, in case it gets torn, water can easily enter and subsequently damage the bearings.

The U-Joints are much stronger than the CV axles. Along with these, lower fascia made of plastic material and rocker panel covers made of cheap materials is vulnerable to scratches. Thus, it appears that the old XJ has a better robust package than the new KL though the latter’s underbody skid-plating is much more extensive. However, since the XJ that was tested for robustness did not have any skid plates, as far as this parameter is concerned, it can be regarded as a draw.

Traction

As far as the traction is concerned, the all-new Cherokee from Jeep wins hands down. There is an Axle Rear Drive system in its rear that includes a real mechanical locker. It can help you to move past the steepest grades quite easily.  The KL deploys the ABS system to cause the wheel to brake with lower traction while transmitting the power to its wheel, without losing its strong grip. The setup is also known as Brake Lock Differential and after combining with its rear locker, no one can stop the new KL when it climbs on loose hill. Thus, KL emerges as the clear winner with respect to this parameter.

Test drive any Jeep at Pine Belt and enjoy a scintillating experience.

Can The New Jeep Cherokee Hold Up Against The Beloved Old One?

Jeep Cherokee Radiator

While comparing articulation, not only traction is crucial but the quality of an off-road ride is of great quality. If a vehicle is powered with plenty of articulation, it can ride over the uneven terrains and ensure that you can enjoy a smooth and nice ride without making the vehicle jittery.

A photograph taken during the testing showed the new Jeep Cherokee climbing downhill at a specific angle. The front tire at the passenger side raises above the ground till it is almost at a parallel level with that slope and at that point its right front tire is seen crashing off to the ground. When the same obstacle was imposed on a Jeep XJ, all its tires were firmly positioned for the entire duration, thus resulting in a much more enjoyable ride for its driver.

It is interesting to note that on a terrain which did not max the suspension travel of the all-new Cherokee, its ride was much better than an XJ’s. But as far as the articulation is concerned, an XJ comes out as a winner.

Underbody protection and robustness

There are skid plates located all across the all-new Cherokee KL’s underbody. It is quite a beefy and thick armor to be sure.

You can also avail the XJ with optional skid plates that cover its gas tank, transfer case and steering components. Though the skid plates in an XJ is not quite extensive as that of the skid plating of the new Jeep Cherokee, it is not required that badly.

Come over to Pine Belt and enjoy test driving a Jeep Cherokee.

Describing The Subaru WRX

Subaru WRX

The 4th generation model is equipped with a sharper and smarter steering. The new model is now equipped with a D-shaped steering, a wheel with smaller diameter than before.

The steering ratio of an electric power steering is 14:5:1. Moreover the bushing stiffness gearbox mount of Subaru has been increased by 230 percent.

There have been changes in WRX’s rear and front suspension as well.  Its front suspension now has stiff cross-members with the rigidity getting increased for control arm bushings, larger stabilizer bar, thicker strut cylinder, higher lateral stiffness among many other technical changes.

Its turbo has now been mounted right beneath the vehicle’s boxer engine that has led to the increase in its crank pins to 50mm from the earlier 48.

Similar boxer sound is brought again by its exhaust system but is now tuned in a better manner as a cylinder chamber has now been abolished and the inside pipe has been shortened.

There have been upgrades in its brakes from 11.6 to 12.4 inches. The thickness of the brakes in the new Subaru WRX has gone up to 30 mm from 6 mm.

All the Subaru WRX models are equipped with 17-inch wheels and though the weight of the wheels has not changes as compared to the earlier model, the rigidity has gone up by 5 percent.

Base model and the WRX premium are two of the variants from Subaru WRX for Australia. The latter is powered with extra equipment.

Some of the colors in which Subaru WRX is available are ice silver metallic, crystal white pearl, dark gray metallic and galaxy blue silica among others. In total, the car is available in 7 different colors.

Subaru and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Partner To Deliver 30,000 Blankets to Those With Cancer

Subaru Logo

During the month of June Subaru of America joined forces with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to raise awareness and money for cancer patients living with blood cancers through the US.  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to the treatment and cure of blood cancers.  The campaign titled “Subaru Loves to Care” brought together 54 LLS chapters and 393 Subaru dealers in this effort and successfully delivered 30,000 blankets to cancer patients.

Along with the blankets, consumers who visited the participating dealerships also had the opportunity to hand write personalized notes to be delivered to local cancer patients; providing not only warmth and comfort to their physical bodies, but also for mind and spirits. In return for the notes participants received an LLS and Subaru bracelet, spreading awareness of the decease even further.

Both Thomas J. Doll, president and COO of Subaru of America, Inc. and LLS president and CEO, Dr. Louis J. DeGennaro we ecstatic and overjoyed with the outcome of this campaign and hope their combined efforts inspire others.

Performance and the Subaru WRX

Subaru WRX

The Subaru WRX now has the ability of higher torque and power with more advanced standard equipment while charging the most reasonable entry cost. The WRX has been designed to deliver extra performance and has improved in its fuel economy by more than 11 percent.

One of the best features of Subaru WRX is the new 2.0-liter DOHC direct-injected, intercooled, turbocharged aluminum-alloy, 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine with Dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS). The engine makes it operate effortlessly and smoothly.

The 5-speed manual transmission of WRX’s previous model has been replaced with a new fully synchronized 6-speed manual with carbon 1st and 2nd gear synchros and Incline Start Assist. The option for an automatic version with 8 artificial gears has brought back an option for automatic transmission so that its market appeal can be widened.

As far as the brakes of the Subaru WRX are concerned, they are excessively good. Active Torque Vectoring works with the VDC applying braking power to the inside front wheel, resulting in sharper turns, neutral steering, and higher cornering limits. In fact, technically speaking, there is simply nothing incorrect with them.

Choose any Subaru car and get ready for a test drive at Pine Belt.

An Inside Look At The Jeep Grand Cherokee Part 3

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

Though the diesel engine of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is quite powerful, it is not at all overwhelming.  Once the engine is lit, a welcome shove is provided by the torque generated.

The vehicle is simply perfect for driving on the highways. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is steady, as well as, smooth on an open road, particularly when the air suspension is set into an aero mode. The vehicle is comfortable and prompt and its steering is quite well weighted. The suspension is highly compliant too. The Grand’s SRT version offers a pretty good ride to you too around a town.

On an average the Grand gives a mileage of about 22.35 miles per gallon for mixed driving. On a highway, the vehicle offers a mileage of about 27.48 miles per gallon while testing that is quite close to what the EPA claims (28 miles per gallon to be precise).

Its EcoDiesel engine takes pride in a similar towing capacity when compared to the Hemi. The latter has a towing capacity of 7,200 pounds in its 4X4 variants and 7,400 in its 4X2 models. The engine offers a superior fuel economy as compared to the gas version of V-6 engines. In fact, the engine delivers the better of the two worlds. Though the price of the EcoDiesel engine is higher than the gas models, the diesel driving features and the additional fuel economy makes it a preferred choice as many experts would claim.

An Inside Look At The Jeep Grand Cherokee Part 2

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

In continuation with the discussion on the engine of the Jeep Grand Cherokee from the first part… its engine can be paired with 8-speed, automatic transmission and excellent 8HP70 from ZF. Apart from the updates in its powertrain, the Jeep Grand Cherokee also got a face lift as far as its interior is concerned. It has been revamped to include the DIC or Driver Information Center, instrument cluster and a fresh center stack with fresh color choices.

Its DIC is highly configurable now and can use a computer generated picture for the speed readout or that of the speedometer. The instrument cluster in its interior blends a seven-inch TFT or Thin-Film Transistor screen with traditional physical gauges. The screen can be configured in a manner to display various data points explaining the operation of the vehicle.

Chiseled rump and a fresh face are some of the other attributes that have been added on the vehicle’s interior updates. The signature style LED lighting is contemporary in look and is placed on Grand’s rear and front so that it can be easily distinguished when you take it out on a road.

As soon as you push the ignition button first, you will see the instant light on the EcoDiesel. It then settles down to being smooth and quiet. When you start moving, a slight mechanical sound from its engine reminds you that that the existence of gas engine is not there.

The shifts due to its 8-speed is rapid while its transmission responds easily to the throttle inputs and do not get lost even after the presence of so many gears.
