Pedestrian-Avoidance System Utilized in 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Pine Belt 1 Chevy Malibu Pedestrian Avoidance System

Chevrolet plans on installing a pedestrian-avoidance system in the 2016 Chevy Malibu. A camera that scans for pedestrians will be installed behind the windshield. When a pedestrian is detected the driver is alerted and the brakes are automatically applied if the driver doesn’t act in time. After multiple tests, the vehicle automatically stopped to avoid a collision at a speed of 15 mph, but the severity of a collision can only be decreased at a speed between 20 and 40 mph. The camera system was utilized in order to keep the costs low for GM and in turn keeping the cost low for consumers.
